Published: typis J. Brindley, Sumptibus J. Murray Date of publication: 1774
Description: polished leather binding with bright gilt decoration to spine. The pages are a bit wonky in places and the type is not as consistently done as my dutch books. Some pages seem almost under inked. gilt stamping to edges of boards. pages are generally bright, with some spotting. laid paper with some watermarks. title in gold on a red patch of leather, just like my ovid tomes.
Why I bought: because I had just finished studying Catullus 101 (about his brother’s tomb) and because the book was nicely decorated, in decent condition and printed in London — I thought it would be nice to return it to London. The building currently at 32 fleet street was built in 1883 and now contains a vape shop.
